Case Management Funding Awarded to Three Nonprofits

Updated :: Wed, 02/25/2009

FEMA has awarded a $58.2 million grant to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for case management services.

Case managers help families obtain housing, furniture, and other needs necessary for their recovery by connecting them with existing local resources.

HHSC has contracted with three nonprofit organizations to deliver the case management services.

Neighborhood Centers Inc. (NCI) will provide case management to 15,000 families in Harris County. For more information, visit www.neighborhood-centers.org

Lutheran Social Services Disaster Recovery (LSSDR) will serve 13,000 families in 16-county area outside of Harris County. LSSDR will partner with 10 local faith-based organizations. For more information, visit www.lsss.org and click on Disaster Response.

Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will serve 1,400 families in the East Texas area. For more information, visit www.detcog.org

The United Methodist Committee on Relief and the Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response are providing case management training for the project.

The 18-month Disaster Case Management Pilot Program will gather best practices in Texas to help develop a model for a national disaster case management program.
