FEMA Funding Announcements

Since September 2008, FEMA has obligated more than $703 million in Public Assistance disaster funds to the state for Hurricane Ike recovery.
 
As of April 14, in millions:
 
-$4.4 to League City for debris cleanup and monitoring of debris removal
 
-$2 to the Texas General Land Office for monitoring debris removal from public beaches
 
-$1.1 to the City of Galveston to reimburse Beck Disaster Recovery for monitoring the removal of debris
 
 
As of April 2, in millions:
 
-$15.7 to Sam Houston Electric Cooperative for emergency protective measures and repairs
 
- $8 to Jefferson County for the acquisition of 87 residential properties that suffered extensive flooding damage
 
- $3.9 to Texas Southern University in Houston for repairs to classrooms, hallways and an auditorium
 
- $2.8 million to Fort Bend County for the supervision of debris removal
 
- $1.8 to the Houston Fire Department for search and rescue operations, costs associated with running emergency operations centers and temporary emergency medical stations at shelters, as well as the distribution of ice, water, meals and other essential supplies.
 
- $1.1 to Crockett-based Houston County Electric Cooperative for repair work
 
 
As of March 28, in millions:
 
- $19.9 to the City of Houston for debris removal on streets, public rights of way and city facilities
 
- $3.5 to the City of Houston for vegetative debris removal
 
- $3.3 to reimburse the City of Galveston for sheltering costs during Hurricane Ike
 
- $2.7 towards replacement of storm-damaged panels on the retractable roof at Reliant Stadium
 
- $2.3 for the City of Liberty to reimburse for damages to the city's electric distribution system
 
- $1.6 to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to reimburse for labor and equipment for the collection and proper handling of hazardous materials in orphan drums and containers
 
- $1.2 to the Texas Department of State Health Services for a contract with Baptist Child & Family Services to support medical special needs for individuals following Hurricane Ike at the San Antonio State Hospital

Mayor Bill White has
established a relief fund to
help fill unmet human needs
for victims of Hurricane Ike in
Houston, and Harris and
Galveston Counties and other
affected areas. The Fund is
being administered by Albert
Myres, senior vice president
at Reliant Energy, with
fundraising and distribution
overseen by a special citizens
advisory board. The Fund is
now accepting donations and
is assessing humanitarian
needs. People are asked to
mail donations to the above
mailing address or donate
online at the above website.

The Gulf Coast Ike Relief
Fund is modeled after the
successful Katrina/Rita Fund,
which was also managed for
the region by Myres.
