Home Repair Grants

Updated :: Tue, 05/05/2009

If your Ike damaged home is in the neighborhoods designated for revitalization under the City of Houston program called Houston Hope you may qualify for home repair assistance.  This is based on sliding scale income requirements generally ranging from $34,000 for one individual per household to $52,000 for a household of five to $64,000 for a household of eight.

Residents of Sunnyside, Acres Home, Independence Heights, Near Northside, Fifth Ward, Denver Harbor, Clinton Park, Settegast, and Trinity/Houston Gardens may qualify for grants up to a maximum of $30,000.

Tophas Anderson with Housing and Community Development said if the home is beyond repair, it will be considered for demolition and replacement with a functionally equivalent home.

Anderson said the available funds are a combination of City of Houston TIRZ (Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone) dollars and federal CDGB (Community Development Block Grant) dollars.
