Tree and Junk Removal Months

Updated :: Wed, 05/06/2009

While the official Ike debris removal program is over, there are still many options for discarding hurricane debris. In alternating months, residents may dispose of Tree Waste and Junk Waste at their curbside for recycling purposes.

May is Tree Waste month. Tree Waste is defined as “clean” wood, such as tree limbs, branches and stumps

June is Junk Waste month. Junk Waste is defined as furniture, appliances and other bulky material. Treated wood furniture and lumber also fit in this category.

To find out your day for heavy trash pick-up, go to http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/schedule.html.   Heavy trash may be placed close to the front curb as early as 6 p.m. the week scheduled pick-up days but no later than 7a.m. on scheduled collection days.

Residents who wish to discard heavy trash before their scheduled once-per-month pick-up may use one of four neighborhood depositories at the following locations:

2240 Central Street
5565 Kirkpatrick
5100 Sunbeam
6023 Windfern

The locations are open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except holidays. They are free of charge to Houston residents. For further clarification or verification contact the City of Houston resource line at 3-1-1.
