When Recovery Impacts Your Emotional Wellbeing

Updated :: Fri, 05/08/2009

Do you often feel jumpy or nervous? Do you find it harder to concentrate than usual? Feelings of sadness, irritability or anger could be signs of depression. A general lack of energy, difficulty sleeping, or an increase in use of drugs or alcohol can indicate a need for counseling.

The American Psychological Association has identified the following strategies to build one’s resilience:

- Make connections
- Accept change as a part of life
- Take decisive actions
- Nurture a positive view of yourself
- Maintain a hopeful outlook
- Move toward your goals
- Avoid seeing crisis as insurmountable
- Keep things in perspective
- Look for opportunities for self-discovery
- Take care of yourself

For additional assistance, the Houston Galveston Institute is offering individual, family, couple and group therapy to children, adults and seniors in the Harris County area. For more information call 713-526-9390 or e-mail admin@talkhgi.com.
